I'm a beginner and had this for about two months. I'm making slow but some progress, I'm enjoying the journey. It's not easy learning piano! What I would say is don't buy cheaper you need at least this standard of piano for it to keep your interest. If you really don't like it it has good resale value too. It's worth saving a little extra and getting this over cheaper options. The sound is something you will probably normally be hear through headphones via the computer as you'll be learning through flowkey which is free for three months with this or other software. The upgrade from this has better external sound apparently but I'm completely happy with the way this one sounds. Would recommend.
Jen******ittI have been without a piano for so many years but always rejected the idea of a keyboard. I recently played this at a friends house and have now bought one for myself. It's just perfect, never played a keyboard that felt so much like a piano. So, so happy with it.
Der******bsBought in some trepidation to replace a faithful 30 year old Clavinova, I was not disappointed. The usual Yamaha excellence in every aspect. Many of the tones have improved (e.g. organ) and various other facilities have been improved too. For a basic model this is really, really excellent. It is a basic model and I am sure that if I could justify a direct replacement for my Clavinova, I would be even more thrilled. However, I am in no way disappointed with this really excellent instrument and would certainly buy it again.
Bar*******nterI had a Yamaha keyboard that was over 30 years old that I gave to my son. He enjoyed playing it but said there weren't enough keys. Saw the reviews and a brand I have purchased before and bought this for my son. He plays nearly every day and has improved so much. All good the only dislike is the size not a problem if you have the space but we don't. Purchased a Yamaha bag to protect the piano so piano in the bag is kept in a cupboard. Every time he plays it needs to be taken out then put away.
C***sGot this as a 21st birthday/christmas present. I've been learning on it for almost a month now, and it's fantastic. The weighted keys are great for building finger strength, it has a nice few sound options, but really the default piano is the best sounding, and it comes with an in built metronome so you can practice rhythm. I think the only negative thing I can say about this keyboard is that the higher notes are really quiet, and it's quite hard to play higher up in the black notes since the pivot for the keys is up there, so they're much harder to press. Makes it quite hard to regulate how hard you press if you need to go higher up. Despite those flaws though, this keyboard is great value for money, and you can't really get much better at this price range. So if you're looking to play piano, but want to stay on a budget, then this keyboard is a great choice.
B *****CKunlike some keyboards this has the keys weighted to give the same response as a piano, strike the keys harder the sound will be louder, the spring back is also the same a a full sized piano, so for anyone wanting a piano but without the room for the full sized thing this is ideal (not that it is in any way small because it still requires a fair amount of space, but it can be stored away after use). ONLY FOR THE STRONG though, it weighs 17.5 kilos so delicate little souls shouldn't contemplate being able to bring it out and put it away after use.
L**aExceptionally good for beginners, decent quality build. Sound not very loud, but it does is respectable job. recommended.
E**The piano's graded hammer keys makes it feel like a real piano, the sound is great and design is slick so you don't have a distracting 200 buttons to make sounds effects on top of the keys. Highly recommended for beginners.
Mic******etThis is an incredible digital piano. I've had it for 18 months so far and it's one of the best things I've ever bought. This is a great piano for someone looking to take piano playing seriously, with the benefit of not needing to get a grand piano. It's pretty heavy, so you will need to purchase a solid stand to go with it, but it's portable enough that you could transport it to use for performances if you wanted to. Playability is excellent. It's a bit different feel from playing a grand piano, but the weighting of the keys here makes for a vastly superior experience to a non-weighted keyboard, as the weight means you can play dynamically with volume which is essential for learning good technique and for playing pieces the way they were meant to be. The weighting feels great here with different weighs from the lower to higher octaves. There's a lot of range to be found here. Sound here is also fantastic. From the grand sounds of the bass notes to the dainty trebles, Yamaha deliver a top of the line quality. Volume is very adjustable and you can plug in headphones with a 6.25mm jack for the convenience of private playing. This does come with a small pedal for sustaining. It's decent as a basic but you may prefer to upgrade to a more substantial one as the default does move around a bit. You can also plug the piano into an audio interface with the right jack if you want to record yourself. There are options for changing the default sound to a few basic synthesised options like electric piano sound etc. These are fine but I don't use them personally. They're a nice option to have if you're into that sort of thing, but they aren't a big selling point. This is a fantastic piano. The sound is great and playability is top of the line. You get the full range of a piano with a degree of portability. For the quality you get here, the cost is well worth it if you're looking to take learning/playing the piano seriously and need something you can set up anywhere.
